The Flower Essence Emotional Therapy Model

In the rush of life, taking moments to sense energies can be a challenging undertaking. While we are often given pharmaceuticals to target symptoms or herbal preparations to focus on an underlying issue, flower essence therapy takes a subtler approach.

Flower essence therapy works with the vibrational energies or life force of the human energy field to gently influence and support emotional and spiritual misalignments. A drop or two of the near-flavorless liquid placed under the tongue can be used in situations of shock, irritability, depression, guilt, fear, insufficiency, anxiety, impatience, and more. Since the flower is the pinnacle of vibrational energy patterns in a plant, it has the ability to join with and encourage the body to bring itself back into balance.

Here at the Wildflower Clinic, our Lead Integrative Medicine Practitioner, Dana, uses sustainably harvested flower essences to customize a therapeutic approach to a receiver's needs. In this therapy model, Dana creates an open, caring space to discuss past and present emotional trauma, emotional blockages, any hindrances to emotional progress, PTSD, and other possible imbalances. Flower essence therapy allows people to unfurl at their own pace knowing that they have the support they need to address anything that the essences may bring to the surface.

Vibrational Medicine

Flower essence medicine is often called “vibrational medicine” as it is harnessing energetic vibrations of flowers that sync with the body's rhythms. It is comparable to homeopathy in that microscopic amounts of tangible constituents work in powerful therapeutic ways. Usually only 4 singular drops of a flower essence are placed on the receiver's tongue during a flower essence therapy session. This type of therapy addresses underlying core issues and takes a holistic approach so someone can potentially identify a root cause of an illness and heal from there.

When we quiet the mind and sit with an essence, that energy can work in profound ways. This is one of the reasons such small diluted amounts of a flower essence are used. An open, welcoming space in the body opens doors for the energy of the essence to resonate with the energy of the body. The dose of essence does not have to be large as even a small drop carries the same type of life force that was emitted in nature.

How Flower Essences are Made

Although flower essence medicine has been used for millennia (uses were documented on papyrus in Ancient Egypt), the “father” of Flower Essences is considered to be Dr. Edward Bach. Dr. Bach began creating flower essences in the 1930s to address the inner levels of emotional personality imbalances. He knew there to be a connection between the physical manifestations of symptoms and underlying emotional conditions.

Dr. Bach states that the “Mother Tincture” or “Essence” is the water that holds the life force of the plant. From the Mother Essence, 1 singular drop is added to a combination of mountain spring water and a solvent, such as brandy, glycerin, or apple cider vinegar to preserve the life force of the drop. The method used for making the Mother Tincture is a very beautiful ritual that connects the harvested petals or florets (flower heads) of a medicinal blossom with mountain spring water and the sun.

The energy from the sun infuses the vibrational life force of the flowers into the water for 3-5 hours. After the flowers have impregnated the water, they are lovingly discarded with gratitude and the remaining water is the Mother Tincture or Essence. From the Mother Tincture, the essence is diluted into the stock essence, which is further diluted into the dosage essence. With essences, the greater the dilution, the greater the power as these are vibrational medicines.

Electromagnetic Energy

Human beings give off very potent electromagnetic energy. The heart itself gives off a field of energy that reaches 3 feet away from the body in all directions. Emotions and mental states are often reflected in this energy and can be understood when using intuition and/or sensation.

Flower essence therapy is a form of healing that uses this electromagnetic energy and intuitive readings to understand what a person is feeling, whether it appears on the surface or is buried deep within the spirit. A practitioner takes time to truly feel and comprehend what a person has experienced and does a thorough intake to find the correct balance of essences that may trigger the correct healing pathways for an individual.

Through intuition and sensing of life force within the body, a flower essence practitioner uses this comprehension to “peel the onion” and help the patient work further down to the root system of the ailment. There are often many layers to an emotional, mental, and spiritual state, so practitioners often encourage positive thoughts to support the body’s healing through the connection with the mind.

According to Dr. Bach, flower essences help us to help ourselves. They are the catalyst through which we can address our healing in a safe and supported space. Like most therapeutic methods, an essence may take time to start healing, as the timely productivity of the essence depends on the person and the severity of the imbalance at hand. Mental receptivity to the energies being surfaced is considered great progress in the journey toward balanced health.

Safety of Flower Essence Therapy

One of the most inclusive parts of flower essence therapy is that it is safe for children, folks who are pregnant, the elderly, and folks taking medication. Flower essences work with the vibrational energies of the body rather than with any physiological system, so there is no risk of herb-drug interactions. As mentioned above, the energy of an essence can be preserved with glycerin or vinegar so this gentle form of therapy is also an option for anyone who does not consume alcohol.

At the Wildflower Clinic, we believe that energetic and vibrational medicine is a form of therapy that is desperately needed in today’s rapid-paced society. Due to the intense symptom-based medication that rules modern Western medicine, mental and spiritual states are often overlooked. Ironically, these traumatic and stuck energies are often what cause imbalance in the first place, tipping the scale into physical illness presentations. Flower essence therapy supports us in remembering and synergistically vibing with the life forces of plants so we can find balance and heal through nature.
